COVID-19 reaches Ferozepur: First case confirmed amid rising cases in Punjab
Ferozepur, May 27, 2025: After Mohali and Amritsar, the COVID-19 virus has now made its way to another district in Punjab — Ferozepur. Health authorities are on high alert after a man who recently travelled from Ambala tested positive for the virus, sparking renewed concerns across the region.
COVID-19 cases are surging across India. According to the latest Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data, the total active coronavirus cases in India stand at 1,010. Data further reveals that Kerala and Maharashtra are among the worst-hit, and other states reported Covid cases are - Gujarat, Karnataka, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The sudden rise in COVID-19 cases comes after a spike was reported across Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore, China, Thailand and Hong Kong.
According to officials, the patient, who is reported to be a railway employee, had come from Ambala to Ferozepur and exhibited mild symptoms and visited a local hospital for testing. His samples returned positive for COVID-19, prompting immediate action from the health department.
He has since been admitted to an isolation ward, and contact tracing is underway. All those who came into close contact with him are being identified and placed under quarantine. However, his position is said to be normal.
This is the first confirmed COVID-19 case in Ferozepur during the current wave. With cases already reported in Mohali and Amritsar, the emergence of the virus in a third district has triggered statewide concern.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Health Department has issued an appeal to the public to get tested immediately if you experience even mild symptoms, wear masks in public spaces, avoid crowded areas and maintain social distance.
Authorities emphasised that precaution is the best protection against COVID-19, urging citizens not to let their guard down.
