PGIMER Honours Medical Team for Exceptional Service During Operation Sindoor

Chandigarh, May 29, 2025 – The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, today felicitated its team of doctors, nursing officers, transport staff, hospital attendants, and volunteers for their exemplary service during Operation Sindoor, a humanitarian mission in crisis-hit Jammu & Kashmir.
The recognition ceremony, held at the institute, was presided over by PGIMER Director Prof. Vivek Lal, who praised the team for their courage, swift action, and unwavering professionalism in challenging conditions. He lauded the team’s presence at ground zero as not only life-saving but also deeply humanitarian.
“This team represented the finest spirit of PGIMER,” said Prof. Lal. “Their service in the field brought hope and healing to those in distress. PGIMER has always risen to the call of national duty — and Operation Sindoor reaffirms the strength and dedication of our people.”
Dignitaries present at the event included Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal & Dean, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu; Dr. Shelly Mahajan, GMC Jammu; Prof. R.K. Ratho, Dean (Academics); Prof. Sanjay Jain, Dean (Research); Prof. Vipin Koushal, Medical Superintendent; Prof. Ashok Kumar, Acting Medical Superintendent; and Prof. B.R. Mittal, Head, Department of Nuclear Medicine, among other senior faculty members.
A multidisciplinary medical team provided critical field support, including trauma care and emergency surgeries. The team comprised Dr. Amit Sharma (Anaesthesia), Dr. Swapnesh Sahu (General & Vascular Surgery), Dr. Himanshu Kanwat (Orthopaedics), Dr. Mahesh Jangra (Plastic Surgery), Dr. Sachin Kumar (Anaesthesia), Dr. Gokulakrishnan Hari (General & Vascular Surgery), Dr. Udit Jayant (Orthopaedics), and Dr. Sachin C. Nair (Plastic Surgery).
Three nursing officers — Narinder Tyagi, Ramesh Kumar, and Krishan Kumar — were acknowledged for their continuous patient care and critical support during post-operative and emergency scenarios.
The Transport Department was lauded for ensuring smooth evacuation, logistical support, and transport under tough terrain conditions. Felicitated staff included Shiv Nath, Pradeep Kumar (II), Lakhvir Singh, Jasvir Singh, Rajveer Singh, Sandeep Singh, Jagtar Singh, Jatinder Singh, Malkit, and Gaurav Kumar.
Hospital Attendant Darshan Singh was recognized for his vital role in maintaining hygiene and assisting patients in the field.
Volunteers Manmohan and Shyam Paswan from Vishav Manav Ruhani Kendra were also honoured for their contribution to patient coordination and emotional support for those impacted.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and mementoes, along with a round of applause for the team’s outstanding service. Their efforts have set the foundation for a Rapid Medical Response Team at PGIMER to enhance emergency medical outreach during national crises.
