Amid Corona curbs, CM Punjab inaugurated Virtual Farmers Fair at PAU
Ferozepur , September 18, 2020: A two days’ half-yearly Online Farmers Fair of Punjab Agriculture University was today inaugurated by Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

This is the first time, due to corona pandemic, the fair is taking place on an online virtual platform and farmers of Punjab witnessed it online. At the district level also progressive farmers of the district including Cabinet Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi and Deputy Commissioner Gurpal Singh Chahal joined the fair online.
On the occasion Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh in his online address recalled the contribution made by Punjab in making the country self reliant in food production and lauded the role of Punjab Agricultural University in the Green Revolution.
On this occasion he said that the black laws being introduced by the central government would have a detrimental effect on the agriculture of Punjab. He also appealed to the farmers to cultivate as per the recommendations of the University.
Cabinet Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi said that food or nutrition security of the country is possible only if the farmer has economic security. He said that farmers and agriculture sector was the top priority for the state government. He said that the new laws being introduced by the central government would make the farmers slaves of the Companies again.
Rana Sodhi said that it was a good tool to enable the farmers to increase their knowledge by visiting online fairs.
Deputy Commissioner Gurpal Singh Chahal appealed to the farmers to keep in touch with the Agriculture Department so that they would be kept informed about the latest agricultural techniques , seeds , subsidies, medicines etc. He said that farmers should always use the seeds and medicines recommended by the Agriculture University.
On this occasion Dr. Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University and Vice Chancellor of Sri Guru Angad Dev Veterinary University from Ludhiana , Chancellor Dr. Inderjit apprised the farmers about the research and extension services of the University and stressed on the need to adopt a sustainable model of agriculture. Agriculture Officer Resham Singh Sandhu , Agriculture Officer Jangir Singh besides progressive farmers of the district were present on the occasion.
