Railways to halt trains during 4 hrs rail-roko call; DRM expects peaceful protest by farmers
Ferozepur, February 17, 2021: Expressing thanks to the farmers for peaceful protest in the past, Divisional Rail Manager, Ferozepur Division, Rajesh Aggarwal said all security arrangements have been made on a call given by Samyukt Kisan Morcha-SKM for 4 hours rail-roko – 12 noon to 4 pm, for February 18 and at the same time, it is expected that this protest too will be peaceful. The trains will be put to a halt during this time at the important stations.
Added here, that the farmers are still protesting for repealing of 3-Farm Laws as all proposals and dialogues across the table have failed to conclude for any specific decision.
He, however, informed that during the sit on tracks - rail-roko call period, operation of all trains will be stopped at the major stations. He further informed that
He informed that a meeting has been held with the officials of the concerned department and keeping in mind the safety of rail and passengers, it was decided that special passenger trains running from Ferozepur division will be run uninterrupted and passenger trains will be stopped at important stations so that there is least inconvenient to the passengers. The moment the protest period is over, the traffic on tracks will be restored after following the protocol of security check at the sit-in dharna places, he added.
DRM thanked the peaceful demonstration by the farmers/organizations in the past adding that at present the farmers' organizations are only performing on the railway track at Jandiala Guru. However, keeping this in mind, some trains operating from Amritsar have been cancelled, partially terminated or diverted.
He, however, appealed to the farmer's organization sitting on the track at Jandiala Guru to vacate the railway track completely so that the special trains running from Amritsar could be run smoothly and the people of Punjab can be provided with convenient rail service.
