Sonepat commuters are facing tough time amid Kisan Morcha at Singhu Border
Chandigarh, April 15
The ongoing farmers' agitation has started affecting the life of common people residing in the vicinity of the protest site. While sharing the problem at Chandigarh Press Club, Hemant Nandel, President Rashtravadi Parivartan Manch, Dr Tara Chand, Legal Advisor, Chairman of Petrol Pump Owners, RWA, Factory Owners and Vikas Secretary Pres Parivartan Manch, presented their charter of demands and problems.
“The impact of the anti-agricultural law movement has started falling on the pockets of the common people. Due to the agitation there has been a jam on the Kundli border for the last 135 days and due to this regular commuters from Sonepat have to travel an extra 10 to 20 kilometers daily. This is a waste of time and money along with fuel," said Nandel.
According to an estimate, more than five lakh rupees of fuel are being wasted daily by the people of Sonepat due to this movement. "According to an estimate, 50 to 60 thousand people commute daily from Sonepat to Delhi. Before the lockdown, the daily passengers leaving the trains, who had monthly passes, were close to 30-35 thousand. Apart from this, hundreds of people commute to Delhi by buses, cabs and their own vehicles. Also, due to the closure of trains, commuters are shelling money to travel by road on their own vehicles, “said Nandel.
