Retired IAS, PCS & Army officers writes open letter to President Kovind in support of farmers’ protest
New Delhi, February 19, 2021: A group of retired IAS, PCS and Army officers have written open letter President of India Ram Nath Kovind in support of the ongoing farmers’ protest.
In the letters to retired officers have stressed that farmers agitation is not just led by the people one particular state.
“Nothing can be farther from the truth to hold that nearly 80-day agitation has been organized by the farmers, farm lands and the members of the civil society of only one state. The presence of three protest sites for the agitators from Haryana, Western UP and Rajasthan and other farmers places offers sufficient proof to rubbish that charge,” wrote officers in letter to President.
They further demanded President to ask the Union government to withdraw all the cases filed against the farmers for Republic Day violence.
“Excellency, we unequivocally condemn the unfortunate happenings at The Red Fort on 26th January. We deplore the wanton hooliganism and vandalism indulged in by some misguided miscreants. Enough video footage is available to prove beyond a speck of doubt about the deliberate presence of some communally rabid elements hailing from the majoritarian community who were seen openly inciting and coaxing the Delhi Police personnel to unleash force on the peaceful protesters. The thoughtless high-pitched calls were: DILLI POLICE LATH BAJAO, HUM TUMHARE SAATH HEIN..,” read the letter.
“There are various angles requiring thorough probe and many questions that beg for satisfactory and plausible answers.. Just blaming the peaceful protesters, blindly filing FIRs, booking hundreds of the innocent farmers, journalists...all these are over reactions, prompted more out of frustration or under frenzied orders of the Home Ministry rather than forced by the exigencies of the ground situation. In all fairness, the Union Government should withdraw, without any delay and precondition, all the false and flimsy cases registered against all except the real troublemakers,” they further demanded.
