Ferozepur, February 18, 2021: On a nation-wide call from Samyukt Kisan Morcha – SKM, the farmers in Ferozepur under the banner of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee today continue to agitate against three agricultural laws enacted by the Centre in September last year and blocked the railway track at three places in Ferozepur at Basti Tankan Wali ,Mallanwala and Talwandi Nepalan from 12 noon to 4 pm which passed peacefully.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), the umbrella body of 40 farm unions, has called for a peaceful protest between 12 noon and 4 pm, expecting to get support for the programme from across the nation.
The railways, meanwhile, have stepped up security to prevent any untoward incident. Additional forces have been deployed across Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has deployed 20 additional companies across the four states. DRM Ferozepur Rail Division on Wednesday made an appeal to the farmers calling for peaceful protest so as not to inconvenience passengers. Thousands of farmers had gathered on the railway track to express their resentment against the Modi government and demanded immediate repealing of 3-Farm Laws.
Farmers have been protesting at the different borders of the national capital since November last year, against the three newly enacted farm laws - Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
In the meantime, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait had threatened that the protesting farmers will take the agitation to the poll-bound West Bengal if the Centre does not concur with their demands against the new farm laws.
Addressing the protesters, State leader Sukhwinder Singh Sabhra, Zone President said, the government should withdraw the three farm bills and electricity amendment bill, make a law for the procurement price of all crops, cancel Pollution Act, continue giving cheaper foodgrains to labourers through the public distribution system, make 50 percent cut in oil prices, waive off the loan of farmers and release the arrested farmers.
He said, sooner or later the 3-Farm Laws has to be withdrawn. However, the farmer's protest will continue till the repealing of laws, he added.
