Step aimed to make women self-reliant by bossting their economy: Apneet Riyat
CHANDIGARH/HOSHIARPUR, JULY 11, 2020: In line with empowering women by making them self-dependant, the Industries and Commerce Minister Sunder Sham Arora today gave away 38 e-rickshaws worth Rs 50 lakh to needy women under Punjab Government’s flagship programme Ghar Ghar Rozgar Mission.
While distributing e-rickshaws to the beneficiaries at local Roshan Ground, the Minister said that Punjab Government was making all our efforts to empower women in the state under Ghar-Ghar Rozgar Mission. Mr. Arora pointed out that the District Administration had played a pivotal role in this endeavour to provide e-rickshaws to disabled, divorced, widow and needy women with the contribution of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds by the Coca-Cola for this unique initiative. He said that the District Administration had conducted the interview to select eligible candidates under this programme well-before the spread of COVID-19 and the licences had already been made of selected aspirants after imparting them free training.
Divulging further, the Minister said that charging points for e-rickshaws were setup in the park adjoining fire brigade with the parking point near the office of General Manager, Punjab Roadways.
While distributing e-rickshaws, the Minister also interacted with the women and commended them for opting this unique initiative, which would further motivate other to become self-employed. He said that all the e-rickshaws hold be linked with an app so that their locations could be tracked and the information regarding this would be given to women police officials to ensure the safety and security of these women.
On this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner Hoshiarpur Ms. Apneet Riyat said that this endeavour was aimed not only to make needy women self-reliant but also to encourage their economy, which would further lead to realise women-empowerment. She said that the entire project had been accomplished through the District Bureau of Employment and Entrepreneurship. She also asserted that the District Administration would ensure their safety and security.
