Mansa stood first in Tubectomy, Jalandhar first in Vasectomy & Amritsar came first in Mini Lap
Chandigarh, 11 July 2020 : On the occasion of World Population Day, the best performing districts under family planning program were honoured. Mansa stood first in Tubectomy, Jalandhar came first in Vasectomy and Amritsar came first in Mini Lap. It was disclosed by the Health Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu.
Giving details, Mr. Sidhu said that World Population Day has been observed in all government hospitals to make people aware about the free services of family planning methods being provided by the Punjab Government. He said that this year theme of the World Population Day is "Aapda Doran parivar niyojan di tayari, Samrath rashter te parivar di puri jimmedari". He said that to bring stability to the growing population even during pandemics like COVID-19, the disease, and mortality rate of mothers and newborns should be reduced.
The Minister also urged the people of Punjab to get the delivery done in the government hospitals only and keep their family limited by adopting family planning methods and get the maximum benefit of health facilities. All these services are provided free of cost by the State Government.
Director of Health Services (Family Welfare) Dr. Prabhdeep Kaur Johal said that it is time to understand the problem of growing population, this is the responsibility of the all families to control the population and educate the other people about the family planning methods as well as affect of it.
Dr. Johal appealed the people that to ensure the safety of mother and child, get the pregnant mothers and babies vaccinated properly within time. She said that in Punjab schools immunization for children aged 5, 10 and 16 were done by the school health teams. Schools have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and children were being vaccinated through announcements from religious places in villages under various awareness programs.
Meanwhile, the Director National Health Mission Punjab Dr. Parvinderpal Singh Sidhu said that today July 11, 2020, is being celebrated all over the state as World Population Day. This day was first celebrated on July 11, 1989. According to the 2011 census of India, the total population of Punjab was 2,77,43,338 (2 Crore 77 Lakh 43 Thousand 338), which has now risen to over 3 Crore, which is a matter of concern. Issues concerning economic and social development are considered as the basis for bringing stability in the population.
