MACHINES COULD DISPOSE 4000 PLASTIC BOTTLES AT ONE POINT OF TIME
Chandigarh/Sultanpur Lodhi (Kapurthala), November 06, 2019: In a step aimed at making the holy city of Sultanpur Lodhi a completely plastic free zone, the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has installed two plastic shredding machines with a capacity of disposing 4000 plastic bottles at a single point of time.
The Chairman of PPCB Prof. SS Marwaha today dedicated these machines set up by the department at local Bus Stand and Near Gurdwara Sri Ber Sahib. These machines have been set up a cost of Rs 24 lakh. Each of the machines could shred 2000 plastic bottles into reusable material, at one point of time, that could be used by the industrial units for manufacturing their products. Prof. Marwaha said that this was a path breaking initiative of the PPCB to ensure that the holy city was developed as a completely plastic free zone.
The Chairman further said that the PPCB has been vigorously carrying out the campaign to make the people aware against the hazardous effects of the plastic. He said that every effort was being made to discourage the use of plastics by the people. Prof. Marwaha said that the move was aimed at making the holy clean, green, pollution and plastic free zone.
The Chairman further said thatplastic play a major havoc with the health of the residents due to which the PPCB has been making concerted efforts to get rid of this menace by sensitizing the people on this grave issue. He said that this campaign would continue in the coming days until the holy city was made completely plastic free. Prof. Marwaha also visited the exhibitions installed by the state government in the holy city.
On the occasion Chief Environmental Engineer Mr. GS Majithia, Senior Environmental Engineer MR. Harbir Singh and others were also present.
