Water Supply and Sanitation Department provided Sanitary Pad Vending Machines and other services for women during ‘Prakash Purab’ functions at Sultanpur Lodhi
Chandigarh, November 13, 2019 : For the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji, the Government of Punjab organised ‘Parkash Parv’ in Sultanpur Lodhi, Kapurthala district, Punjab from 1st to 20thNovember 2019. Department of Water Supply and Sanitation (DWSS) had provided world class water supply and sanitation facilities on the spot part from providing facilities for the women and girls.
Dedicated training was imparted to to the on-site DWSS officials and awareness among pilgrims was created on the importance of menstrual hygiene management.Additionally, eight Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) training experts have been deployed for the training of all the toilet cleaning staff and behavior change related communication to the pilgrims.
Over 60 Sanitary pad vending machines were deployed near the female toilets and parking areas to provide free-of-cost sanitary pads to the pilgrims and promoting the importance of menstrual hygiene. The department provided over 15000 Sanitary Pads to the pilgrims. Safai sewaks helped the community to avail the services. This initiative was jointly executed by DWSS and Punjab HDFC band under Corporate Social Responsibility.
