Amritsar, 09 November 2019- HH Dalai Lama gave the message of peace & harmony in the Inter-Faith Confluence that was organized in Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar to commemorate 550thPrakashPurab of Sri Guru Nanak Devi ji. The Confluence was an initiative of Capt. Amarinder Singh, Hon’bleChief Minister Punjab and was presided over by Hon’ble Finance Minister Manpreet Badal. The Theme of the Confluence was “Oneness” & the philosophy of Sri Guru Nanak DevJi.
The deliberations began with Shabad recitation and Prof.Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University introduced the theme and resource persons..Hon’ble Minister, Manpreet Badal in his opening remarks highlighted the relevance of Nanak’s philosophy and the way it has shaped the community, region and the entire world. Hon’ble Minister presented coffee table books to the faith leaders. The book is on the history and evolution of Amritsar City and Guru Nanak Dev University and thanked the guests for accepting the invite..AnuragVerma, Principal Secretary, Higher Education, Govt. of Punjab was also present on this occasion.
H.H.Dalai Lama in his message talked about compassion, non-violence and the relevance of reason and rationality in religion and spirituality. He gave an elaborate account of the Buddhist tradition and the importance of spirituality in the field of education. Swami Shuddhidananda from Belur Math talked about how the nature of spirit is to be happy and peaceful.
In his address, Swami appealed the youngsters to culture their thoughts and actions. Maulana Syed Athar Hussain Dehlavi and GyaniTanveer Ahmed Khadim talked about the universality of Guru Nanak DevJi’s teachings and how it is intertwined in the traditions of North-Western India. Sister B.K.Usha of the Braham Kumari’sspoke the importance of meditation and Revd.BishopSamantroy talked about morality and values in our daily life. Dr.Monica Gupta from ‘Gnostic Centre brought forward the Philosophy of Sri Aurobindo.
Prof. Karanjeet Singh Kahlon, the Registrar, extended the vote of thanks and Prof.S.S.Behl, Dean, Academic Affairs was also present on this occasion.
