Jalandhar, July 25, 2020: Ensuring safety and security of the women in the city, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police came to help of a stranded woman at BSF Chowk on Friday midnight and safely dropped her at home.
The woman had called at 112 helpline around 12.11 am on the intervening night of 24-25 July and sought help from Commissionerate Police. Following which the women PCR team immediately rushed to the spot and got her reached at the destination.
Commissionerate of Police Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that due to growing concerns over safety of women, the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had launched free police help to drop women safely at home if they are stranded outside between 9 pm and 6 am.
Commissioner of Police said that the Commissionerate Police was duty-bound to protect the dignity and honour of the women at all costs. He said that the Police force was highly sensitive for extending a helping hand for the women in distress.
Mr. Bhullar said that the main focus was to curb the crime against women by speeding up police response and helping in prevention of crime against women.
The Commissioner of Police said that instructions had already been issued to officers to ensure timely assistance to the victims and bring the perpetrators to the book.
Mr. Bhullar said that 14 teams of Women Armed Special Protection Squads (WASPS) were already working in the city to ensure safety and security of the women adding that it has produced desired results as Women were more confident to approach women commandos to report incidents of eve teasing and other crime against them.
He said that this facility is available on number 100, 112 and 181, through which the woman caller is being connected immediately to the police control room (PCR).
