ONLY 96 OUT OF OVER 3500 PASSENGERS CHECKED FOUND NOT WEARING MASK
CHANDIGARH, JULY 28, 2020: On the directions of the Punjab Chief Minister, Transport Department on Tuesday undertook a special state-wide drive by checking as many as 186 buses, to ascertain adherence of health protocols by over 3500 passengers travelling through these buses.
The drive which covered both Government and Private buses was conducted by Sub Divisional Magistrates across the state, the Official Spokesperson disclosed adding that only 96 passengers were found not wearing masks and were challaned on the spot.
Expressing satisfaction at most people observing health and travel advisories, State Transport Minister Razia Sultana lauded them for complementing state efforts to counter and control Covid 19 at the earliest.
She also urged people to keep following strict adherence to these health norms to save Punjab from pandemic. We have so far been very successful in keeping the numbers low and with overall cooperation of our people we would defeat the virus altogether, she added.
Due diligence is observed in ensuring al the buses are properly sanitized before being pressed into service, the spokesperson added. Availability of masks, sanitizers and gloves have also been mandated to be made available at all the bus stands, the spokesperson added.
