Governor expresses serious concerns over destruction of mobile towers, communication infrastructure in Punjab
Chandigarh, December 30, 2020: Perturbed over the alleged "vandalism" in the state in the form of destruction of mobile towers, communication infrastructure in Punjab and violence & disruption of BJP programmes, Governor Punjab VP Badnore has decided to summon Chief Secretary and DGP to Raj Bhavan to seek a report on these matters and to express his serious concerns on the matter.
In a strongly worded press release issued by the Raj Bhawan , it was conveyed that the Governor took a serious note of the vandalism during the ongoing protest of farmers, where in the past few days, more than 1600 mobile towers have been damaged.
He expressed serious concern on this matter of damage to such communication installations that are vital for day to day affairs of business, educational institutions and Government and the society in general.
This is a difficult time when education is taking place through online classes, for which such communication lines are vital.
Damaging and disrupting communication lines will affect not only students but the whole society and economy also in many ways. Governor Punjab felt that there has been failure of the law enforcement agencies in preventing such damages.
A representation was handed by the top BJP leaders of the State to Governor today, detailing the violence and obstructions that the BJP leaders and party workers have been subjected during these protests and the failure of the law enforcement agencies in preventing it.
Governor Punjab said the State Government should take immediate action to prevent such vandalism from reoccurring and protect communication infrastructure in the State.
He has decided to summon the CS and DGP to Raj Bhavan to seek a report on these matters and to express his serious concerns on the matter.
