Kotkapura August 14, 2018: Kuldeep Kaur, MA, B.Ed – 34-year old, dreamt of becoming a successful teacher. Hailing from Kotkapura, it is not surprising that her career was destined to be elsewhere. Today, she has no regrets rather a contended personality and a role model for others who wants to do something special in their life.
Kotkapura resident, Mrs Kuldeep Kaur wife of Gurjinder Singh, a source of inspiration and motivation on becoming a successful dairy farmer after leaving the private job – have also emerged as women empowerment and making valuable contributions in providing safe food to the people under Mission Tandrust Punjab campaign of the Punjab government.
She studied up to MA Bed left the job as private teacher thought of becoming a rural entrepreneur by adopting the profession of dairy farming. She had the passion of moving forward by doing her own business rather than continuing on the job. About her successful story, she gives the credit to her husband Gurjinder Singh and members of the family and making a valuable contribution in promoting the white revolution of the state.
Describing the story of her success, Mrs Kuldeep Kaur said that although the teaching is a very good profession. But she adopted the profession of animal husbandry for the purpose of doing something new for the family and society and chose it as a challenge.
Teacher-turned-Dairy Farmer, Kuldeep Kaur said that although women in the rural have been supporting the family in the animal husbandry work from the beginning, in Punjab and the rest of the country women have very low tendency towards dairy farming from the business perspective. Yet she took this profession as a challenge and started the dairy farming by placing three animals only.
After this, she came in contact with the Dairy department Faridkot to know about the further scope of this profession and later on, during the year 2014, she applied for a bank loan to open her own dairy farm.
She said, under the Women Empowerment Scheme of the dairy department of the Punjab Government, there is a provision of 50 per cent subsidy and bank loans are provided to the women for doing their own dairy business. I applied for a loan to the bank for running the dairy farm and Rs.17.50 lac loan was approved by PADB Land Mortgage Bank. The first instalment of subsidy for Rs.3.50 lac has already been received by her. In addition, the milking machine was made available on a subsidy of Rs..30,000.
She told them that he has opened this dairy farm in her house, to keep up the animals and maintained properly.
Not only this, Kuldeep Kaur told that feed for the animals is also prepared by me and besides green fodder, silage is also prepared. Whenever there is a shortage of green fodder, this food is given to the animals.
Summing up, Kuldeep Kaur said, she and her family are completely contented with the dairy business started almost 4 years ago and they do not face any problem in the marketing of milk.
I get more satisfaction in dairy farming than the teaching profession said, Kuldeep Kaur. She advised the women to adopt the dairy business as a vocational profession to raise the economic level of their family. She also thanked the Dairy Department Faridkot for the timely guidance.
