Ferozepur, July 9, 2019: The Punjab Chief Minister today honoured Malaika Goel – daughter of Sandeep Goel, SSP Ferozepur – with highest Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award in shooting sports, in view of her peculiarity in sports event of shooting.
Malaika is among 99 players honoured with State’s biggest sports award, for the first time by the Punjab Government as they are pride of the State as well as the entire country.
Malaika started her sports career in shooting in 2008, when she was just ten years old and has not looked back since then and there is a long list of awards to her credit – States, National and International level and today with highest sports award – Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award by the Punjab Government from Capt Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister, Punjab.
When called over phone, Malaika Goel spoke to Harish Monga Babushahi.com team member and was feeling excited after receipt of the highest sports award. She answered to a questionnaire and to give a message to the youngsters pursing in sports career as - One should not give up a hope, believe in themselves, never look back and always look in the forward direction.

HM: Malaika, First of congrats for pile of medals you won in various shootings events. How many are in numbers?
MG: It is a long list of medals and awards and I feel pleasure when I see them displayed in my room.
HM: How do you feel on your selection and after getting the highest sports award of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award?
MG: I am feeling very very honoured and prevalent and I am very thankful to the Punjab Government of selecting for the highest sports Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award keeping in my performance in sports shooting
HM: How did you pick up shooting as your career in sports?
MG: I started shooting in 2008 when I was just 10-year old and family supported me to continue with it to bring laurels to the family and country as well.
HM: Who has been your role model or models?
MG: My role model has definitely been Heena Sidhu a prominent sports person and shooter, India has produced and I daily look up to them.
HM: What are you pursuing in academics now and how do you cope with the pressure of studies?
MG: I am purusing MA(History) and I in 2nd year. Actually, there is no pressure and my family daily supports me, rather when I started shooting when I was in 6th Grade. I am managing my shooting as well studies without any pressure.
HM: What are your future plans in both – studies and sports?
MG: I am going to complete my post-graduation next year and in sports I am looking after for international competition, coming world cup or Asian games.
HM: What do you do to relax? I mean, do you read books, watch movies or how do you spend your time?
MG: Yes, I definitely read books even got for swimming and sometime list to music. I like fiction books.
HM: How do you feel about becoming a sportsperson?
MG: I feel pleasure to be recognized as a sportsperson like today honoured with the highest Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award in Shooting Sports.
HM: What difficulties did you face in reaching this point?
MG: I would say that my journey has been very good, my friends, especially my mother and father have supported throughout. So it has been good.
HM: Who is your favourite Shooter or of any other sports event?
MG: As I already said, my favourite shooter is Heena Sidhu.
HM: Do you think shooting require too much physical exercise as compared to other sports?
MG: Yah, shooting definitely require a lot of physical strength and stamina and every shooter I know
HM: My last question…. What message you want to give to the readers and aspirants for sports career?
MG: I would say that one should not give up a hope, believe in themselves, never look back and always look in the forward direction.
