Rakesh Kumar, Sunam Singh Wala reveals new fact about Shaheed Udham Singh
Ferozepur, August 17, 2021: Rakesh Kumar, Sunam Singh Wala, a retired officer from railways from Ferozeur and settled at Sunam has revealed new facts about Shaheed Udham Singh
Shaheed Udham Singh was a well-known freedom fighter from Punjab. Udham Singh belonged to Ghadar party and was best known for assassinating Michael O' Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab in India. Dwyer's assassination on March 13, 1940, was carried out as revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919. Udham Singh was convicted and hanged in 1940 for the murder of Dwyer.
Divulging with details, Rakesh Kumar who is the author of a number of books on Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Shaheed Udham Singh stated that during the trial of Shaheed Udham Singh, I have managed to read 10 more quotations written by him in Gurmukhi out of the eight pages available with me. Shaheed Udham Singh spoke for 25 minutes when he was sentenced to death and this is the first time in history that his handwritten quotations have been read.
Rakesh Kumar further said, I am working on the project of revealing more facts from the remaining pages. During the trial of Shaheed Udham Singh, we have managed to read 10 more quotations written by him in Gurmukhi out of the eight pages which Udham Singh took with him. Of these papers, he spoke for 25 minutes when he was sentenced to death. I have managed these documents from England which were not in proper order. Now I have worked on these papers and revealed new facts and this is the first time in history that his handwritten quotations have been read.
I feel that such quotations by the revolutionary – “I don't care what happens to me. After all, just remember the homeland”, “'Blessed are those who do national work", Consider it your duty to serve the nation - will work as motivational text for the young generation, to dedicate themselves for the sake of country, he added.
