Former Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader VP Singh Badnore has been appointed as Governor of Punjab by the President of India on Wednesday. The 68-year-old Badnore, hails from Rajasthan and is a leader of masses.
Born on May 12, 1948, in Badnore village in Bhilwara district of Rajasthan, to father Sh. Gopal Singh and mother Smt. Rani Raj Kanwar, VP Badnore was married to Alka Singh on November 25, 1978. The couple has a son and a daughter.
After doing B.A. (Hons.), VP Badnore completed Business Management from Mayo College, Government College, Ajmer and A.S.C.I., Hyderabad.
An agriculturist by profession he was also an active political and social worker, sportsperson and environmentalist.
Badnore was a member of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly in 1977-80, 1985-90, 1993-98 and 1998-99, a Irrigation Minister in Government of Rajasthan, a Member Committee on Energy and Defence and a Member of Joint Parliamentary Committee on Stock Market Scam, a Member, Consultative Committee for the Ministry of External Affairs Member, National Advisory Committee, NCC 2004-2009 Member, Fourteenth Lok Sabha Member, Committee on Energy Member, Consultative Committee, Ministry of External Affairs July 2010 Elected to Rajya Sabha July 2010 onwards.
He also was a Member, Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Enviornment and Forests May 2012 onwards. Member, Committee on Petitions Aug. 2010 - August 2011 and August. Member, Committee on Energy October 2012 onwards, Member, Joint Parliamentary Committee on Security in Parliament House Complex Social and Cultural Activities, Literary, Artistic and Scientific Accomplishments.
Badnore also have special interests in Sports, Clubs, Favourite Pastimes and Recreation. He participated at the national school level swimming competition.
Apart from this he is a member of Delhi Golf Club, Delhi Gymkhana Club and Bombay Gymkhana Club, Mumbai.
VP Badnore has widely travelled personality. He visited various counties as aMember of Indian Delegation to Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Canada, 1994 and 2004, (ii) Indian Delegation to China (2001), Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa (2002), U.K., U.S.A. (2003), Japan (2004), (iii) Indian Parliamentary Delegation of South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA) to Pakistan, 2003 and (iv) Delegation of Parliamentary Network on World Bank (PNOWB), Greece, Finland, Switzerland, Japan (2004)
He also remained Chairman, (i) Special Task Force to rehabilitate tigers in Sariska (Rajasthan), Government of Rajasthan, 2005-09, and (ii) Empowered Committee of Forests & Wild Life Management in Rajasthan; Member, (i) National Advisory Committee on Tourism, 2002-2003, (ii) National Committee on N.C.C., (iii) Wild Life Preservation Board, Rajasthan for the last 20 years, (iv) Steering Committee, "Project Tiger" and (v) Board of Governors, Mayo College, Ajmer since 1985; Vice-President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Rajasthan, 1989-90 and 2001-2010; Founder Member and Executive Member of the Indo-British Parliamentary Forum; Co-Chair of the Indo-US Parliamentary Forum; worked in London (U.K.) in New Caxton Encyclopaedia in 1970; worked in Escorts Ltd.
