Amritsar: 14 August, 2016: Sonali Giri IAS of 2009 batch is setting up new milestones in the field of monitoring, management & supervision of administrative units. Ones work is reflection of one’s attitude; this has been proved by Sonali, whether she is SDM, ADC or Commissioner of Corporation, she had shown her administrative skills. Sonali Giri, who assumed charge as Commissioner of Amritsar Municipal Corporation in the first week of April 2016, has already chalked out a blueprint and is working on it to make Amritsar city a place to reckon with. Her hardworking approach had put on track various delayed projects. Many of them kick off in the city on 14th August, 2016 by the Dy. CM Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Speaking with APS Brar in her camp office, after kick off of various projects, Sonali said “We have started mechanized sweeping of the city. MCA is the nodal agency for this work. Tenure of this project is 7 years. For this purpose, we have divided the city into three categories, 4 lane roads are put in the A category, 2 lanes in B category & other roads in C category”. 104 kilometre long roads in the city will be covered under this project. Rs 1.50 crore per month will be expended for this work. The work will be done 7 days a week, it will include cleaning & washing of foot paths once a week, briefed Sonali Giri.
Sonali further added “We have launched MSW project at the cost of Rs 290 crore. In the compliance of the MSW rules 2016, each ULB has to process and dispose its waste in a scientific way”. We have awarded this project to Amritsar MSW ltd; a subsidiary of Essel infra projects ltd. It will work in collaboration with Hitachi Zosen inova of Japan, a company which uses waste disposal for energy production said Sonali Giri.
It is our endeavour to ensure a clean, healthy and prosperous environment by enabling the sound disposal of municipal solid and biological waste and simultaneous energy generation added Sonali.
Sonali further added “650 MT per day is the generation of Municipal solid waste in city. A big fleet of 256 vehicles will be engaged for collection and transportation of Municipal solid waste from the 54 wards of MCA”. The fleet will include 113 Tata ace mega & 112 Tata zips along with 21 compacters. 11.5 MW electricity will be generated after processing the 650 MT waste collected disclosed Sonali.
New Municipal Corporation building has been completed at the cost of Rs 30 crore. It has been inaugurated by Dy.CM today, said Sonali. Old building will be developed as “Partition museum”. A depleted building of Dharm Singh market has been face lifted to spell the grandeur of Amritsar market.
Smart bins project has been started in the city to collect garbage etc in the inner city. The cost of the project is Rs 4.00 crore added Sonali.
Sonali Giri further added “We have obtained Rs 60 crore under the National Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) scheme”. The scheme aims to safeguard and restore soul of the heritage city to reflect the city’s unique character. It is meant for development of core heritage infrastructure projects which shall include revitalization of urban infrastructure for areas around heritage assets identified & approved by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India informed Sonali Giri.
Sonali disclosed “All roads leading to Golden Temple will be renovated under the HRIDAY scheme. All heritage linked buildings, Gol Bagh, UBDC canal, Maharaja Ranjit Singh summer palace & panorama will be covered under this scheme said Sonali.
“Besides this, there are many things in the pipeline. One of the major projects is the selection of the Golden Temple as one of the 10 iconic places of the country” the bureaucrat says. This Rs 35 crore project will focus on sanitation & cleaning in the 500 metre periphery area of the Golden Temple. It will provide a beautiful outlook to the periphery area added Sonali Giri in ending note.
