Mohali, February 6, 2021:
“Being a woman councilor, I had done extensive development in my area and set an example. I think the residents are ready to choose me for the third time,” said Kuldeep Kaur Kang, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) councilor, who won with maximum lead in the district during previous Municipal Corporation (MC) elections. This time, Kang is contesting the elections from ward number 5 (Phase 4 and its adjoining area) of Mohali, which has 3,975 votes. On the other side, the main contender of Kuldeep Kaur is Rupinder Kaur Reena of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP).
Kuldeep Kaur, who is also a member of Punjab core committee, SAD Istri (women) wing, claimed that she always stood with her area residents and this time also, feeling confident to serve her voters.
Talking to Babushahi Times, Kuldeep Kaur said that she was able to fulfill all the promises made to the residents during her last tenure. “I kept my maximum focus on the health sector. Top class gyms were installed in parks with my efforts. The major park in our area, Bougain Villea Garden, Phase 4, was maintained in such a way that it has now become the most beautiful park of city undoubtedly,” said Kuldeep Kaur. She said she had spent Rs 3 crore during her last tenure and various projects worth Rs 65 lakh are still pending. “We had removed all the heavy generators, fixed behind the market area of Phase 5, and put them on terraces of showrooms. As a result, the area behind the market got vacant, and also paver blocks were installed on road behind Phase 5 market. Earlier, you can see all the areas behind markets used to remain occupied with heavy generators and the roads of these areas were also full of potholes. So, we had set an example by adopting these measures,” she added.
Sharing her life journey, Kuldeep Kaur said she was born in 1971 in Barma village near Samrala (Ludhiana). She completed her graduation in 1990 from Government College for Girls, Sector 42 in Chandigarh, and became a homemaker after getting married to Arvinder Singh Kang in 1991. She has two sons. “My family had no political background and I was the first one to start this inning in 2006 for the first time, as our area witnessed no development since then and I wanted to change its face. A year after winning the first elections, I was made district president of Istri Akali Dal,” she said.
Keeping herself busy in daily door-to-door campaigning, the SAD councilor said that if she gets another chance to serve her ward, she will focus on installing CCTV cameras and security gates at several points. In addition to this, a stray dog pound will be made in Phase 4 area as stray dogs are increasing and posing threat to the residents.
