Punjab Governor releases documentary on Punjab di Koyal Surinder Kaur

Chandigarh, November 16, 2021: During a special function held at Punjab Raj Bhavan a documentary was released on the life of world renowned singer and "Punjab di Koyal '' Padma Shri Bibi Surinder Kaur by the Governor of Punjab Banwarilal Purohit. Speaking at a function organised by Sapt Sindhu, an organisation working for the preservation of Punjabi culture and Punjabi Heritage, the Governor of Punjab Purohit remarked that a society which stays connected with its heritage is always growing and flourishing. Upon arrival of Dolly Guleria on this auspicious occasion, Purohit said that he was extremely happy that Bibi Surinder Kaur's legacy was being continued by her daughter Dolly Guleria and after that her daughter Suneni Guleria and granddaughter Riya Guleria will also be following the footsteps of grandmother, letting the Punjabi language and heritage prosper.
Speaking on the occasion, Dolly Guleria said that all the songs of her mother have become folk songs today and Surinder Kaur will be remembered till the end of the world. Dolly Guleria and her daughter Suneni Guleria sang Bibi Surinder Kaur's popular song "Maavan te dhiyan ral bethiya ni maye".
President of Sapta Sindhu and Chairman of The Trident Group, Padma Shri Rajinder Gupta mentioned that he still remembers how he longed to hear Kaur's song on All India Radio. Gupta said that he would make every effort to keep the Punjabi heritage alive through the organisation "Sapta Sindhu"
On behalf of Sapta Sindhu, member of the organization, Arunjot Singh Sodhi welcomed the Governor of Punjab and all the guests, while Kunwar Jagmohan briefed the guests with the organisation's objectives.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Virinder Garg, President PGI, said that the biggest concern today is that our next generation is moving away from the Punjabi heritage. It is very important to keep the old songs, customs and traditions alive to keep them connected to the heritage. Among others present on the occasion were famous actress of Punjab Rang Manch Sunita Dheer, Drm Jagjit Kaur, Harjit Kaur, Dr. Karamjit Singh Bedi, Advocate Maninderjit Singh Bedi, Manjinder Singh Sodhi, Balkar Singh Sidhu from Punjab Arts Academy etc.
