Mohali, February 13, 2021:
“Some anti-social elements and workers of opposition parties are trying to degrade us by personally targeting us. The continuous attacks and on-going violence are not going to weaken us. We are becoming even stronger by passing through these situations,” said a BJP candidate Chhavi Sharma (36), who is trying her luck in Mohali Municipal Corporation elections for the first time.
Less than 24 hours are remaining in the local body elections and Chhavi Sharma is contesting from ward number 18 of the city, which has around 3,300 votes. Interestingly, out of four candidates, three are women only, and all are postgraduates.
In view of the on-going attacks on BJP workers, Chhavi got police security amid the polls along with her party companions. Being a BJP candidate, she too is facing the people’s enmity following the massive agitation of farmers at the borders of the national capital.
“Some people had torn down my all posters and even uploaded videos on social media to target me personally. I felt really bad to see that. Expressing your oppose is acceptable, but you cannot attack anyone personally as everyone has their personal life. I know these are not the farmers as the farmers of our nation cannot do this. The attacks are being organized by the opposing parties,” said Chhavi Sharma while expressing her views.
Talking exclusively with Babushahi Times, she said, “If I get a chance, I will ensure proper utilization of MC funds for the welfare of residents. Other than development works, I will focus on the health and security of the residents. In addition to this, I want to organize trade fairs in my ward for the housewives, who have skills in stitching and weaving. Regular social and cultural activities as well as awareness camps to promote girl the child will also be organized.”
Chhavi has joined the party just two months ago and had to face tough times at the beginning of her new innings. “My family always remains BJP supporters and the same thing inspired me to join the party. Also, I feel the decisions taken by the Modi government are appreciable,” she said. Born in 1985 in Jalandhar, she completed her education including graduation (Master of Commerce) from her home town. After her marriage in 2007, she moved to Mohali. She worked as a TV anchor in various media channels from 2006 to 2018. After that, she started her immigration consultation service in Mohali, which is still her business.
Sharing her opinion on Kisan Morcha, she added, “I am also with the farmers of my country. Sadly, the farmers are struggling at the borders but I hope that the senior leadership of BJP will sort out the issue soon by holding some more talks with them.”
She appealed to people, “We want to work for you and you should also trust us. Please, don’t break the bonds of society and brotherhood by spreading hate.”
