Chandigarh,October 8,2023: Educationist, ace shooter and social worker Sabeeha Dhillon Mangat was recently honoured by Administrator UT Chandigarh and Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit at a function here for her extraordinary efforts in the field of education and social work, thereby empowering marginalized communities of society. She received the award in the presence of City Mayor Anup Gupta.
“It’s so fulfilling to see your efforts being recognized so suitably,” said Sabeeha Dhillon Mangat, after receiving the honour. It is notable that Sabeeha with her personal donations provides free education to many needy children.
“I have adopted Dhanas village where poor children are being helped with enabling measures. We provide them with books and clothes. From time to time I get cleanliness and plantation drives too conducted in the village,” added Sabeeha Dhillon Mangat.
It is worth mentioning that under her personal guidance different games and activities are organised for the children with special needs as she is also associated with the Special Olympics Bharat Chandigarh Chapter.
Sabeeha, who has participated in various national and international shooting championships, said that educating underprivileged children not only empowers individuals but also has far-reaching positive effects on society as a whole. Access to education breaks the cycle of poverty by providing marginalized children with knowledge and skills necessary to escape economic hardship, she said.
“Education fosters social mobility, enabling children to aspire for better opportunities and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Education equips young minds with the tools to make informed decisions about their health, finances, and future, ultimately reducing societal inequalities. Society as a whole should come forward in taking care of those who are less cared for,” added Mangat.
Thanks to her leadership qualities, IS Dev Samaj Senior Secondary School, where she works as the officiating Principal, was the only school from tricity which got the opportunity to perform at Gandhi Smarak Bhawan, Sector 16, Chandigarh on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti.
Talking about her passion for shooting, she said that she still has the urge but is now more inclined towards helping needy children of society, which gives her more satisfaction.
In reply to a question, she said that she represented India in the 2nd South Asia Shooting Championship held in 1997 in Delhi and in the World Championship Atlanta, USA, in July 2000, and earlier in Munich.
She is the only shooter from north India to participate in the Plzen Junior International Shooting Meet, held in the Czech Republic in July , 2000.
