Mohali, February 10, 2021:
“I always see myself as my competitor and my mission is to beat my own previous performance,” said Congress candidate Jaspreet Kaur, who is contesting elections of Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) from ward number 1 here. The first ward of the city comprises Phase 1 and its adjoining area, having around 2,700 votes.
Jaspreet Kaur claimed that she has done a lot of developmental works in the past five years and her agenda will be 'development' this time as well. “The job of any councilor is to work on the ground level. The works related to the basic amenities of people were done in my last tenure. I am seeking the votes on the same agenda this time as well, ” said Jaspreet Kaur, who keeps her busy every day in the door to door campaigning.
Talking to Babushahi Times, Jaspreet said, “It is the time of gender equality, and I really appreciate the decision of the election commission for reserving 50 percent seats for women candidates.”
On the allegations of forcible cancellation of nomination forms of opposition parties by Congress, she said, “There is no truth in these allegations. In fact, some candidates of opposition parties intentionally made mistakes during filling of their nomination forms to escape from these polls seeing the anger of the people against their parties.”
On the issue of change of delimitation, she said, “The change of delimitation is not a new thing as it always happens. But I think the changed delimitation is not going to affect the votes of the councilor, who did extensive development in his/her area. In fact, it is good that the new voters will also see what the councilor has done so far.”
Born in 1979 in Jalandhar, Jaspreet was into social service during her school time also. She had no political family background but after her marriage in 2003 with Kanwarjot Singh Raja, she felt the political atmosphere inside her in-laws’ house. Jaspreet’s father-in-law, who encouraged her, was a councilor and a social worker too.
She appealed to her voters, “The residents of the city should also participate actively with their area councilors like in foreign countries, where residents play a vital role in the overall development of any area.”
